A strong event photograph is rarely luck. It comes from preparation, choosing your position and knowing when to press the shutter.
At a corporate event everything happens at once. Whether it is a conference, trade show or company gathering: a panel starts on stage, a conversation clicks in the foyer, and somewhere on the floor a visitor laughs out loud at a remark. Those moments last a few seconds. Miss them and they do not come back.
In this post I show how I work as a corporate event and trade show photographer — and why that approach changes the images you use afterwards.
It starts before the doors open
I want to understand the day before I pick up the camera. That is why I ask for the programme, floor plan and a list of speakers and key guests in advance.
I know when the keynote starts, which segments and guests take priority, and where to stand when the CEO walks on stage. On arrival I walk the room to check light and traffic flows. During the event I can watch instead of search.
Speakers and panels: wait for the reaction
A speaker talking is a picture. A speaker making a point while panellists react is a story. In panel discussions I watch not only who is speaking, but also who is listening, nodding or laughing.
Stage light is often difficult: hard spots, coloured LED walls and dark halls. I set exposure so faces stay clear while the atmosphere of the room remains. I work quietly so I do not disturb the speaker or the audience.
On the floor: the moments between the programme
Much of the value of a corporate event is not on stage but in the meetings: at booths, in breaks and during the reception. That is where people connect, deals begin and the conversations visitors came for take shape.
I move calmly across the floor and keep my distance. People barely notice me and stay themselves. That produces photographs of real reactions: a laugh at a joke, a handshake, a focused conversation. I never ask anyone to pose unless that is explicitly the brief — for example a team group shot.
Overview and atmosphere: show how big it felt
Alongside the details you also want to show how the event looked as a whole. A full plenary hall, a busy foyer, a well-dressed venue. I make those overview frames when the room is busiest — often from a higher viewpoint or the back of the hall.
At trade shows I also photograph booths for exhibitors, both empty and with visitors. Those images later support evaluation, sponsor reporting and planning the next edition.
Images you can use straight away
An event ends quickly, but the communication around it continues. That is why I deliver images fast — so you can post them on LinkedIn or in a newsletter shortly afterwards.
Every photograph is edited in a consistent colour style. You receive:
- Atmosphere and overview images of the hall and venue
- Speakers and panels, sharp and well lit
- Spontaneous interactions between guests
- At trade shows: booth photos, with and without visitors
- Files in high resolution and web format
